The four phase project required an investment of $38.0M. Our key responsibilities were broken down into several parts. First, we had to review the technical accuracy of design drawings, calculations, and specifications. Using ETAP, IEEE1584, and NFPA 70E we performed power system calculations and studies for electrical systems such as load flow, voltage drop, motor starting, short circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and arc flash. Following the study, we developed the arc flash hazard risk category labels and put same on all electrical distribution equipment that displayed level 2 and up. Additional responsibilities were reporting to international/local electrical vendors on all major equipment, verifying any damage, and reviewing third party testing on all major equipment to be installed. Our other task was to create the preventive maintenance manual, describing proper post-installation testing and maintenance procedures for quarterly, semi-annual, and annual performance. Our final task was to resolve the lightning issues at the existing side of the port and merge them with the new installation. To succeed we had to investigate the root cause of past lightning damage, analyze the probability of future lightning strikes, inspecting the integrity of any existing facility lightning protection system, and auditing for compliance with any standards under which the system was installed using standards UL 96A, NFPA 780, IEC 62305, and API 2003. We inspected the integrity of existing facility grounding systems, and audited them for compliance with standards such as IEEE 80, 81, 142, 1100, and NFPA 77.
