Forensic Engineer

We are seeking a talented Forensic Electrical Engineer for our engineering services team in Boston, MA. You will need to be flexible in your approach to challenges and have a strong ability to think laterally in delivering project solutions. The successful candidate will have interest in the following responsibilities:

  • Determine the cause, origin, and extent of electrical damage and failures in residential and commercial buildings
  • Determine the cause of electrical fires
  • Perform appliance and consumer product failure analysis
  • Perform lightning damage assessments
  • Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for a variety of clients
  • Prepare reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation
  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will have a background in the diagnosis of existing buildings and recommendation of corresponding repairs as well as the following:
  • S. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with a NCEES Record is preferred
  • At least 3-5 years of forensic engineering experience performing building assessments and failure analysis, with report preparation for property owners, insurance companies and/or attorneys
  • Capable of performing non-destructive electrical measurements in the field and laboratory
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and appliances
  • Working knowledge of building codes and experience reviewing building plans and specifications
  • Willing and able to travel to job sites
